Wipe it, keep it away from heat, and oil it once a year.
A solid-wood stool, bench or table is made to be used. Care is mostly about steady conditions.
Every day
Wipe spills up when they happen. Use coasters under sweating glasses and pads under anything hot. Dust with a soft cloth.
The room
Wood moves with humidity. Keep furniture away from radiators, heat vents and direct sun, and it will move so little you never notice. Expect small seasonal changes; a slight gap in winter closes again in summer.
Once a year
Wipe the piece down, rub in a thin coat of furniture oil, let it sit an hour, and buff off what is left. If the surface picks up a scratch, a light sanding along the grain and a coat of oil hides it.
